György Kepes (1906–2001) was a Hungarian-born American artist, designer, and educator. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and worked with László Moholy-Nagy in Berlin and London before emigrating to the United States in 1937. He taught at the New Bauhaus in Chicago under Moholy-Nagy and later founded the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at MIT. His 1944 book Language of Vision was enormously influential in establishing the theory and foundations of visual communication as a discipline.
